2018 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational – Trevis’ PGA Punt Plays

Welcome back to my newest edition here in FantasyDraft’s Locker Room! If you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.

With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.

Last Week Recap:

Tyrone Van Aswegen – $10,800 FDraft | $6,800 DK | $7,200 FD – BARELY MC at -3

Robert Streb – $11,900 FDraft | $6,900 DK | $8,000 FD – MC

Tom Hoge – $11,700 FDraft | $7,100 DK | $7,600 FD – MC

Ben Silverman – $11,700 FDraft | $6,700 DK | $7,500 FD – Finished -4 in 71st place (shot 63 on Fri)

WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone CC

This is a Par 70 at 7400 yards with a mix of Bentgrass & Poa Annua greens. Typically I cap my Punt Plays at $12,000 FantasyDraft salary but since this is a no cut event and lot less options, I am forced to stretch the cap to $13,000 for this event.

Kevin Kisner – $13,000

Kisner has played this event the last 3 years and has finished in the top 37 each time with his best finish being 16th in 2016. Kisner comes in at 32nd overall in total strokes gained. His OTT is iffy but he makes up for it with ranking 14th in both his SG: SG and SG: P.

Kevin Na – $12,600

Na didn’t compete at this event last year but didn’t finish outside the top 27 in the 3 years prior with his best being 15th in 2015. Na has the best recent form of all Punts (and almost all golfers) with ranking FOURTH overall in total strokes gained. His OTT also blows but he is 4th in SG: SG and SG: P with also ranking 3rd overall in SG: APP.

Charl Schwartzel – $12,600

Schwartz has the best course history as he is the only Punt Play to have competed in this event each of the last 5 years. He has two top 7 finishes with a 7th in 2016 and a 4th in 2014. The other 3 years he didn’t finish outside of 31st place. He ranks 18th overall in total strokes gained. His worst stats is his SG: P, but he has two top 7s with 7th in SG: T2G and 3rd overall in SG: ARG.

Emiliano Grillo – $12,600

Grillo only competed in this event in the last two years. A 14th in 2016 and a lackluster 50th place finish here last year. E.G. is 23rd overall in total strokes gained. Worst stat is ARG but almost every other stat is inside the top 27, with an 8th ranking in SG: P.

Adam Hadwin – $12,100

Hadwin only competed here last year in recent history but was able to pull off an impressive 5th place finish. Haddy also sucks at ARG like Grillo, but also like Grillo, all but one other stat rank inside the top 27.
