MLB Punt Plays: May 30th

P: Ross Stripling ($14,700)- My typical cut off for pitcher’s is $13,000, but Stripling is so far ahead as my favorite point-per-dollar play that I feel inclined to write him up. Stripling has been exceptional for the Dodgers this season posting a 2.77 SIERA and a 29% strikeout rate. The Phillies are now tied for the highest strikeout rate in the MLB against right-handed pitching (26.4%) and he has the ability to smash his mid tier price tag with a solid outing tonight.

INF: Ryon Healy ($6,400)- Ryon Healy has smashed lefties throughout his career and he gets a dream matchup with Matt Moore tonight. We have attacked Moore all season, and Healy often flies under the radar given his unfavorable spot in the Mariners order. This season, Healy sports a .324 ISO and a .385 wOBA against southpaws while Moore is allowing 46% hard contact! He’s too cheap for his upside tonight.

OF: Jay Bruce ($6,900)- Jay Bruce has been terrible for the majority of the season, but don’t look now…he is showing signs of life! Over the last 14 days, he owns a scorching 51% hard contact rate and a great matchup with Julio Teheran. Teheran was once a promising talent for the Braves, but he has yet to figure out left-handed batters and now it feels like the same old story every start for him. This season, he owns a 5.65 xFIP against lefties with 48% fly balls and 41% hard contact…yikes! Let’s see if Jay Bruce can rise from the dead in a park that plays to lefty power.

UTIL: Albert Pujols ($6,800)- Pujols was my favorite baseball player growing up, and while he is no longer a sexy DFS play, he provides a stable floor with occasional upside hitting in the heart of the Angels order. The Angels are a high contact team, and when you hit behind the likes of Mike Trout and Justin Upton it is often that you see yourself at the plate with guys on base and will have to see pitches to hit. Pujols has 5 hits over his last three games, including a 3 hit outing last night and the matchup with Mike Fiers is not intimidating at all. Fiers has routinely had problems with home runs, and is allowing 44% fly balls to right-handed hitters this season so there is a slight chance we get some vintage Pujols tonight!
