Trevis’ PGA Punt Plays – the Memorial Tournament

If you haven’t played a PGA contest on FantasyDraft yet, I’ll fill you in. You can roster 7 golfers. Only the top 6 scores are added to your overall score, thus the lowest score of the 7 golfers in your lineup is dropped and does not count against you at all. It doesn’t matter if it was your most expensive golfer that bit the dust and missed the cut (Spieth earlier this year), or if it was a minimum salary punt play that performed like minimum price players typically do. The salaries for PGA on FantasyDraft are also rather tight so you usually must have a relatively cheap or min. priced player to help roster one or two “favorites to win”.

With that said, the purpose of this weekly PGA article is to enlighten you to the best PGA Punt Plays for the week. The overall goal here is to find the cheap golfer that can make the cut and aide your roster in case one of your “Top 6” falter or miss the cut altogether. If you roster one of these suggested players and they are the lowest score on your lineup, it usually means your “Top 6” performed adequately.

Last Week Recap:

Sean O’Hair – $12,000 – Missed Cut

Scott Brown – $11,400 – Missed Cut

Brian Stuard – $11,300 – He finished 32nd with a -5

Ben Martin – $11,000 – He finished 32nd with a -5

Chad Campbell – $10,700 – He finished 42nd with a -4

2018 Memorial Tournament

The Muifield Village Golf Club measure 7,265 yards in length. It is a Par 72 with bent grass greens.

Austin Cook – $11,500

Cook is a tricky play because he hasn’t played here once in the last 5 years. There is no course history for him at all. He is 25th overall in strokes gained with 5 stats ranking in the top 50. His best stats are 18th in SG: P and 11th in SG: SG. So yeah, he is legit on bent grass greens.

James Hahn – $11,400

Hahn has played here every other year, making the cut in the most recent two appearances with a stunning 6th place finish here last year. James is 14th overall in total strokes gained with 4 stats coming in the top 20. 19th in SG: OTT and SG: APP, 15th in SG: T2G, and 9th in SG: BS.

Daniel Summerhays – $11,100

D-Sum is 3 for 5 in the last 5 years with his best finish being here last here where he ended up in 10th. He burned me last time I made him a Punt Play but I’m going back to the well with his recent form where he has 6 stats in the top 50. His best ones being 15th in SG: P and 13th in SG: SG.

David Lingmerth – $11,500

David is a perfect 5 for 5 here and took down the whole dang thing back in 2015. Lingmerth has that best recent form of all of the Punts this week, and almost the entire field. He ranks FOURTH overall in total strokes gained. He has 5 stats in the top 21, with the best being 8th in SG: P and 6th in SG: SG. Like Cook, he rocks on the bent grass greens.

Robert Streb – $11,000

Streb is also perfect here, but at only 3 for 3 since he did not compete here in 2013 or last year. The cheapest of the Punt Plays this week, Robby clocks in at 32 overall in total strokes gained. 5 of his stats crack the top 38. His best being 18th in SG: SG and 7th in SG: OTT.
