The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Friday, April 20, 2018.

Pitcher to Target

Matt Koch-$9,000-ARI

I don’t know much about Koch and looking at his numbers in the minors and in his limited time in the majors he doesn’t look like a special pitcher. With that being said I like Koch for two specific reasons tonight. The first is his salary. Koch is dirt cheap and rostering Koch not only allows you to roster one of the four aces on this slate but also allows you to access some of the elite hitters on this slate including the game at Coors. The second reason I like Koch tonight is due to his elite match-up against the Padres. The Padres are one of the worst hitting teams in the majors, especially against right-handed pitching. Last season the Padres had the second-lowest team wOBA and second highest team K rate against righties and this season they rank 22nd in team wOBA while having the third highest team K rate at 27.9%.

Infielder to Target

Justin Bour-$5,500-MIA

Bour is an elite value on this slate as he takes on Jhoulys Chacin. Chacin is a solid pitcher but can struggle at times especially against left-handed hitters. Since 2015, Chachin is allowing lefties to slug .447 with a .345 wOBA. Chachin has a WHIP of 1.56, an HR/9 rate of 1.3 and is allowing a hard hit rate 34.8% of the time to lefties in that time frame. Bour is not just any lefty either as he is excellent against right-handed pitching. Since the start of last season, Bour has an OPS of .917, an ISO of .252 and a wOBA of .381 against righties.

Outfielder to Target

Austin Jackson-$5,500-SF

When I started this article out I did not plan on giving you a value play at each position but here we are with my final play of the day also costing under $6,000 in salary. Jackson dollar for dollar is my favorite player on this slate as he takes on a left-handed pitcher in Andrew Heaney. While Jackson has started this season off slow last season he was one of the best hitters in baseball against lefties. Last season he ranked in the top 15 in OPS at 1.013 and wOBA at .429 among all hitters with at least 120 plate appearances. Jackson also showed some power last year against them with an ISO of .221. If those numbers were not enough to get you excited about Jackson the fact that Heaney has struggled against right-handed hitting should. In his career, Heaney has allowed right-handed hitters to slug .503 with a .359 wOBA.
