The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

Pitcher to Target

Kenta Maeda-$18,700-LAD

In cash games, you are playing Gerrit Cole tonight. There is no question about it. The question is who do you pair Cole with. Do you pair him with another expensive pitcher or do you pair him with a pitcher on the cheaper side of things? For me, I am going to be spending up for my SP2 in cash but not too far up as I love the match-up for Maeda tonight against the Padres. The Padres continue to struggle to hit the ball, especially against right-handed pitching. Since the start of last season, the Padres have the second worst team wOBA bottom ten this season and second highest team K rate. Maeda who struggled in his last start should take full advantage of the Padres struggles tonight and though he won’t pitch deep into the game Maeda is still going to produce in the 20 fantasy point range in this one.

Infielder to Target

Alex Avila-$5,700-ARI

I really like the Diamondbacks left-handed hitters tonight against Chris Stratton. Last season in his first extended time in the majors, Stratton allowed left-handed hitters to slash .284/.392/.419 with a .355 wOBA. Avila is my favorite of the DBacks left-handed hitters for two reasons. The first is he is dirt cheap and allows you the roster savings need to roster Gerrit Cole and some of the stud hitters you are going to want on this slate. The second is Avila was really good against right-handed pitching last season with an OPS of .876, an ISO of .208 and a wOBA of .377.

Outfielder to Target

J.D. Martinez-$9,000-BOS

Tyler Skaggs has looked good this season but all signs point towards a regression as he is a pitcher that gives up a ton of hard contact. This season, Skaggs is allowing hard contact 43.2% of the time and for his career, the number sits at 32.1%. Skaggs has really struggled with right-handed hitters in his career as he is allowing them to slug .411 with a .324 wOBA and has an HR/9 rate of 1.21 against them. The Red Sox right-handed hitters are where I am looking to attack Skaggs with tonight and there is no better right-handed hitter to attack a left-handed pitcher within the majors. From the start of last season, Martinez has an OPS of 1.324, an ISO of .485 and a wOBA of .522 against left-handed pitching. The first two of those numbers are best in the league from all hitters with a minimum of 100 plate appearances against left-handed pitching while the last number is second in the league.
