The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Thursday, April 5, 2018.

The early slate has six games on it while the main slate only has three games so we are going to once again focus on the early slate of games for this article.

Pitcher to Target

Masahiro Tanaka-$17,600-NYY

Tanaka was excellent in his first start against the Rays allowing one run on three hits while striking out eight in six innings. Today we can expect a similar type performance from Tanaka as he takes on an Orioles team that has been ice cold to start the season. Baltimore ranks 29th in team wOBA (.236), 22nd in team ISO (.118) and 29th in team wRC+ (47) while having the third-highest team K rate (28.2%) against right-handed pitching to start the year. Tanaka has also had success against the Orioles hitters in his career as they only have an OPS of .696 against him and Tanaka has 35 strikeouts in his 148 batters faced which is a K rate of 23.6%.

Infielder to Target

Didi Gregorius-$9,300-NYY

I not only want to target the Yankees pitcher on this slate but I also want to target their hitters as they get to tee off against Andrew Cashner. Cashner only has a job in the majors at this point in his career as he can eat innings for a pitching staff and is a really bad pitcher. Cashner allowed three home runs and five total runs in five innings of work in the season opener and those numbers should just go up against this dangerous Yankees lineup. You can target almost every one of the Yankees hitters today but if you asked me to pick just one that I liked the most on this slate it would be Gregorius. Gregorius normally bats cleanup against right-handed pitching and hits them well. Since the start of last season, Gregorius has an OPS of .884, an ISO of .248 and a wOBA of .369 against them.

Outfielder to Target

Leonys Martin-$6,700-DET

At one point of his career, James Shields was a great pitcher. That point of his career was at least three years ago and Shields is a pitcher you want to target hitters against especially left-handed hitters. Since the start of last season, Shields is allowing lefties to slug .560 with a .390 wOBA. Martin is not a great hitter by any means and has started the season off slowly but he is left-handed, cheap and should be batting leadoff for the Tigers and that is all the reason I need to play him against Big Fraud James.
