The NBA Core Four

Welcome to the Core Four where we share four core plays for FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for your NBA DFS contests on Friday, March 2, 2018.

In this article, I will be giving you four players to target in your cash game lineups for FantasyDraft. They will consist of two guards with one of the guards being a value play and two forwards/centers with one of those players being a value play as well.

Russell Westbrook-$22,100-OKC

We don’t have a total for the Thunder-Suns game tonight but I am going to imagine that the Thunder have one of the highest projected totals on this slate. On the downside, we also don’t have a spread for this game and I imagine the Thunder will also be huge favorites in this game. While I normally don’t like to pay up for a player in a game that has blowout potential like this game seemingly has I cannot pass over Beastbrook tonight as the Suns have no answer for him. This season the Suns rank 29th in fantasy points allowed, 28th in defensive efficiency, and 25th in defensive real-plus minus to point guards. Westbrook also killed the Suns in their only meeting that he played this season with 26/10/11 and two steals on his way to 61 fantasy points. Call me crazy but even if Westbrook only plays 28 minutes tonight due to a blowout I still have Westbrook as the highest scoring player on this slate.

Value Guard

Mario Chalmers-$6,800-MEM

For Chalmers to be in play tonight we need Andrew Harrison who is questionable to sit out. If Harrison is out, Chalmers would be in line for big minutes as the Grizzlies are also without Mike Conley and Tyreke Evans in a positive match-up against the Nuggets. The Nuggets rank 26th in fantasy points allowed per game, dead last in defensive efficiency, and 28th in defensive real-plus minus to point guards this season. Now if Andrew Harrison plays while I will not be on high on Chalmers I still think he is in play as he is averaging right around 17 fantasy points per game in his past two games with Evans out which easily pays off his dirt cheap salary.

Otto Porter-$13,400-WAS

I love the way Porter has stepped up his game since John Wall went down with an injury. In those 14 games, Porter is averaging 19.4 points, 7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.4 steals. Porter has produced at least 30 fantasy points in all but one of those games and is averaging right around 37 fantasy points in those games. Now the match-up is not a great one at all for Porter as the Raptors are allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game and have the leagues best defensive efficiency against small forwards this season but I am actually not that worried about the match-up tonight as OG Anunoby is not likely to play. With Anunoby out that is going to leave either DeMar DeRozan, Norman Powell or even C.J. Miles on Porter and neither of those guys is world class defenders.

Value Forward/Center

Cristiano Felicio-$7,600-CHI

Rostering Felicio has been known to induce panic attacks as you never know what you are going to get with him. In his four games since the all-star break, Felicio has been a yo-yo going for single digits in one game then for over 20 fantasy points back down to single digits and back up to over 20 fantasy points. While I normally tend to avoid players like that in cash games and keep them for GPPs I cannot do it with Felicio for two reasons. The first reason is due to the fact that the minutes are there for Felicio. Felicio has played at least 26 minutes in each of his past three games. The second reason is due to the match-up with the Mavs. While the Mavs have been a lot better since deciding to finally start playing Dwight Powell in defending centers they can still have some issues against the position. I have Felicio producing right in the 18 to 22 fantasy point range tonight which would pay off his salary but I will also say that I am not going to be checking my scores tonight until the Bulls game is over.
