PGA First Look: Genesis Open with FireDFS

Welcome to our First look at this week’s PGA Tour event on FantasyDraft.  Last stop in California as we make our way south down the coast to the Pacific Palisades.

Course Information:

Course: Riviera Country Club
Yardage/Par: Par 71, 7,322 Yards
Scoring Expectation:  Expect the winner to be low double digits under par.  Cutline somewhere in the E to +2 range.  The course is a challenge.  Distance is typically rewarded, but ball placement is paramount.  Short and not in the fairway isn’t an option.
Greens: Poa Annua

Weather Forecast: Absolutely, unbelievably perfect.  I want to be there.

We’ve released the FireCharts series to the public!  Head on over to and create a FREE ACCOUNT for access.  I will reference them throughout the player write ups below.  For a quick guide on what they’re all about, check out this post.

Last Week’s Cash Lineup:

What a letdown.  After running hot for a couple weeks, this lineup fell flat.  The all Cs lineup was a drain on the bankroll, not all bad with Casey and Chez both finding the Top 10. Cook really hurt and Hoffman WD didn’t help the cause, ultimately with value like Stricker and Wise (was in my lineup most of the week) out there I should have prioritized fitting in DJ at a score fest like Pebble.  Not my favorite event and the results speak for it!

This week’s picks!

Golfers to Consider:

Dustin Johnson ($18,200)

After his ~70% showing in cash contests last week and coming in the defending champ DJ’s price is quite the pill to swallow.  Despite a lackluster Sunday, I’m not going to back off DJ until he absolutely forces me to.  He’s the ideal golfer for this course as the longest and straightest driver of the golf ball on tour.  Not sure we’ll be able to fit him in cash this week, but he’s absolutely the best option on the entire board for GPP.

Chez Reavie ($15,000)

I’m going to throw 3 charts in a row on Chez below to show you something I really like to see in players with the charts…I went through a few different emotions when I looked at this chart.  First, I saw his T2G has been fantastic, steadily climbing along the 5 event moving average I have plugged in (the dotted line).  Then, I went down to his APP and had a little concern – how could his T2G be so steady if his APP seems to have leveled off?  The answer of course has to be OTT or ARG – and in this case was his ARG.  When he ran into a little iron issues, he’s more than made up with the short game.  That’s key as you’re not always going to have every aspect of your game totally dialed in, but he finds ways to stay consistent. He has made every cut for nearly a year after all. Love these charts!

Paul Casey ($15,700)

This guy is a T2G machine.  Despite some issues with the flat stick around Pebble last week (the only course we get shotlink for last week) he still managed to pull off a Top 10.  And he doesn’t just make cuts, he clears them with ease.  He’s a staple each and every week for cash and GPP!

Below $14,000

Kevin Streelman ($13,600)

I’ve been really impressed with what I’ve seen out of Streelman recently and honestly a little surprised at the consistency.   I don’t know if it’s my own misplaced expectations of the golfer he is or he’s performing above expectations, but it’s been going on for longer than I knew.  He’s found a way to perform well relative to the field almost every single round for 6 straight events and checks out strong across each of the last 10 total events.

Good luck and be sure to check out for a full range of content as the week goes on to help you make sound investment decisions and build that bankroll!  Roger Casey (@LatticeProject) offers a Full Investment Guide on Wednesday’s with our preferred cash game plays specifically for FantasyDraft and GPP strategy.  Check it out!
