The NBA Core Four

Welcome to the Core Four where we share four core plays for FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for your NBA DFS contests on Friday, January 19, 2018.

In this article, I will be giving you four players to target in your cash game lineups for FantasyDraft. They will consist of two guards with one of the guards being a value play and two forwards/centers with one of those players being a value play as well.

Goran Dragic-$13,300-MIA

Dragic was a huge let down last time out but that shouldn’t scare you away from Dragic tonight as he has been playing great basketball. In his previous games, Dragic was averaging 21.88 points, 5.13 rebounds, and 7.13 assists. Dragic produced at least 34 fantasy points in seven of those eight games and had a usage rate in the 29% range in those games. Not had Dragic been playing well before Wednesday’s game but the match-up with the Nets is also one I love to target point guards with. This season the Nets rank 27th in both fantasy points allowed and defensive efficiency to the point guard position. Dragic is going to bounce back tonight and is dollar for dollar one of my top plays on this slate.

Value Guard

Will Barton-$12,200-DEN

Barton is not a true value as he is over $10,000 in salary but he is underpriced with Jamal Murray likely out again tonight. With Murray out Barton is likely to start and play big minutes as he has the past two games as a starter. In those games, Barton has played at least 34 minutes and is averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6 assists, 1.5 blocks and a steal. Barton has produced at least 39 fantasy points in each of those games. Barton also finds himself in an elite match-up as the Suns rank in the bottom five of the NBA in fantasy points allowed, defensive efficiency and defensive real plus-minus to point guards this season.

Hassan Whiteside-$15,500-MIA

Whiteside is healthy again and has been on a tear. In his past six games, Whiteside has played at least 25 minutes five times and has double-doubled in each of those games. In those five games, Whiteside 17 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Whiteside has produced at least 37 fantasy points in each of those games. Tonight you can expect more of the same from Whiteside as it is hard to find a better match-up than the Nets. This season the Nets rank in the bottom five in rebounds allowed, blocks allowed, fantasy points allowed and defensive efficiency to the center position. The last time these two teams met Whiteside was able to produce 32 fantasy points in just 20 minutes and I think it is safe to say he should hit that mark with ease tonight.

Value Forward/Center

Marcin Gortat-$9,900-WAS

On paper, this looks like a bad match-up for Gortat as the Pistons rank in the top half of the league in fantasy points allowed and defensive efficiency to centers but when you look at the numbers for Gortat against the Pistons Gortat has had a lot of success against them. In his past nine games against the Pistons, Gortat has produced at least 24 fantasy points eight times and in the two games against them this season he is averaging 32.65 fantasy points in 33.1 minutes of action. I don’t see any reason why Gortat’s trend of having success against the Pistons changes tonight and Gortat is one of my favorite sub $10,000 plays on this slate.
