Top Picks & Targets for NFL Week 9

In this article, I will be breaking down some of my top NFL plays on FantasyDraft position by position. I will be giving my top-ranked player at each position regardless and the reasons why I like them. I will also give you a FLEX player and this player will be my favorite player of the week at either of the skill positions minus quarterback. Now you may not be able to fit all five of these players in your lineup due to salary constrictions as while I am taking salary into account when making these plays I am not building an actual roster. This goal is with this article along with the value plays article that I will be writing later on in the week is meant to be a base to help you construct your winning lineups.

Drew Brees-$12,500-NO

The easy play this week at quarterback is Deshaun Watson against the Colts. While I like Watson a lot this week I don’t like his salary and think dropping down to Drew Brees is the smarter play. Brees is $1,200 cheaper in salary that Watson is this week and should have similar production as Brees is at home against the Buccaneers. Brees has though his numbers this season don’t show it has traditionally played better at home than on the road. If you need proof of how great Brees has been at home in with the Saints in his career just look at his 60 straight home games with a touchdown pass from 2009-2016. The match-up is also one I like to target quarterbacks against as the Bucs have one of the worst secondaries in the NFL. This season they rank in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed per game to quarterbacks, passing yards allowed and DVOA against the pass. This game also has the highest projected point total on the slate at 50.0. Brees should dominate from start to finish and I would honestly be shocked if he didn’t produce 25 fantasy points in this one.

Running Back

Christian McCaffrey-$11,100-CAR

If you are rostering McCaffrey this week in the hopes of him getting you a ton of yards on the ground you are rostering him for the wrong reasons. Running between the tackles and grinding out four yards a carry is not McCaffrey’s game and never will be. What McCaffrey’s game is is getting the ball in space through short dump off passes and making people miss. McCaffrey’s ability to catch the ball out the backfield is why you should roster him especially on a site like FantasyDraft that has full point per reception. McCaffrey has at least four catches in each game this season and has produced at least eight fantasy points in each game due to that pass catching abilities. This week I expect more of the same from McCaffrey as he is in the perfect match-up for his skill set. The Falcons have struggled mightily against pass-catching running backs and this season they have allowed the second most catches to the position.

Wide Receiver

DeAndre Hopkins-$16,500-HOU

DeAndre Hopkins is very expensive this week but for good reason, as he has been unstoppable since Deshaun Watson took over as the Texans quarterback. In Watson’s starts, Hopkins has 38 catches for 551 yards and five touchdowns. All five of those touchdowns have come in the past four weeks. Hopkins has not only played great with Watson at QB but the match-up is an excellent one as well. The Colts have one of the weakest secondaries in the NFL and this season they have allowed the most pass plays of at least 20 yards and are allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to the position. Hopkins who has produced at least 14 fantasy points in all but one game this season and at least 27 fantasy points in three of his past four games is going to have another monster game this week.

Tight End

Jimmy Graham-$8,800-SEA

I would hate to see what Jimmy Graham’s numbers would look like if he didn’t drop so many passes. Graham despite being credited with three drops which seems like it should be a lot more has put up huge numbers over his past five games. In those games, Graham has 24 catches for 260 yards and four scores with all those scores coming in the past three weeks. Graham has produced double-digit fantasy points in each of those games. With the Redskins struggles this season against the tight end position I am expecting Graham to have another great game.

Zach Ertz-$11,300-PHI

I don’t often put a tight end as my top play of the day but Ertz is not a normal tight end. In fact, I don’t even think of Ertz as a tight end anymore as he is by far his teams top receiver and has been one of the best receivers regardless of position in the NFL. This season Ertz ranks in the top ten of the NFL in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Ertz has double-digit fantasy points in every game this season. Not only has Ertz been great this season but the match-up is also an excellent one as the Broncos have struggled to stop tight ends. The Broncos have allowed double-digit fantasy points to tight ends in every week since week two and are allowing the third most fantasy points per game to the position. Ertz has found the end zone five times over the past five weeks and should add to that total once again this week.

Good luck with NFL this week!
