Top Picks & Targets for NFL Week 8

In this article, I will be breaking down some of my top NFL plays on FantasyDraft position by position. I will be giving my top-ranked player at each position regardless and the reasons why I like them. I will also give you a FLEX player and this player will be my favorite player of the week at either of the skill positions minus quarterback. Now you may not be able to fit all five of these players in your lineup due to salary constrictions as while I am taking salary into account when making these plays I am not building an actual roster. This goal is with this article along with the value plays article that I will be writing later on in the week is meant to be a base to help you construct your winning lineups.

Philip Rivers-$11,800-SD

There are a lot of great options at the quarterback position this week but one man stands out to me as the best of the group and that is Rivers. I am all in on Rivers this week barring him getting injured in practice for several reasons. The first reason is that Rivers happens to be really good. Rivers is always one of the league leaders in passing attempts, passing yards, and touchdowns and this season has been no different. Through the first seven weeks of the season Rivers ranks fourth in attempts with 256, fifth in passing yards with 1,816 and seventh with 12 passing touchdowns. The second reason why I want to play Rivers this week is the matchup as he gets the pleasure of going up against the Patriots secondary. The Patriots secondary has been by far the worst in the NFL. The Patriots have allowed a 300-yard passer in all but one game this season and rank dead last in passing yards allowed per game. They also have allowed quarterbacks to throw for at least two touchdowns in all but two games this season and rank dead last in passing touchdowns allowed. Every quarterback the Patriots have faced this season has produced at least 17 fantasy points and you guessed it the Patriots are dead last in fantasy points allowed per game to the position. The last reason why I like Rivers this week is his salary as Rivers at $11,800 is very affordable.

Running Back

Mark Ingram-$13,000-NO

I have loved the workload that Ingram has received the past two weeks with Adrian Peterson shipped off to the desert. In those games, Ingram has 47 carries and nine catches. Ingram is not just getting a ton of touches but he is producing in those touches. Ingram has rushed for 219 yards for 3 scores and also added another 41 yards through the air. Ingram has produced at least 24 fantasy points in both of those games. This week I don’t see things changing for Ingram despite an average at best matchup against an underrated Bears defense.

Wide Receiver

A.J. Green-$15,800-CIN

Green let me down last week as he only had three catches for 41 yards but I am throwing that game out the window as Green is not going to let us down this week. There are two reasons why I know Green won’t let us down this week. The first reason is due to the way Green has played under Bill Lazor. In Green’s three prior games under Lazor, Green was averaging seven catches for 121 yards and a score. Green had produced at least 17 fantasy points in each of those games and had over 30 fantasy points in two of them. The other reason why I know Green is not going to let me down again this week is due to the matchup with the Colts. The Colts really struggle against the pass. This season the Colts are allowing the second most passing yards per game and the seventh most fantasy points per game to wide receivers. The Colts especially struggle with chunk plays as they have allowed the most 20-yard passing plays in the NFL and that is an area Green excels in. Play Green with confidence this week as he is going to be the highest scoring wide receiver on this slate.

Tight End

Zach Ertz-$12,600-PHI

Ertz is the best tight end in the NFL right now. You can try to debate it all you want but numbers don’t lie. Ertz leads all tight ends in catches, targets, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns while ranking in the top ten in all of the NFL in those categories. Ertz has double-digit fantasy points in each game this season. Now the match-up this week against the 49ers is surprisingly tough as the 49ers have the best DVOA against tight ends and have allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to the position but that shouldn’t scare you away from Ertz as Ertz is that good.

Le’Veon Bell

Le’Veon Bell is a must play for me for as the Steelers look like they are going to ride Bell until he can’t run anymore. Bell leads the NFL in touches this season and since week one he has at least 20 touches in each game and at least 30 touches in five of the seven games. In the past two weeks alone Bell has 73 touches. Bell is not only touching the ball a ton but he is producing at a high level. Bell is averaging over 191 total yards in the past two games and has produced at least 19 fantasy points in each of the past four weeks. Not only has Bell been a workhorse but the match-up against the Lions is an excellent one. The Lions rank in the bottom ten in catches allowed to running backs and fantasy points allowed per game to the position.

Good luck with NFL this week!
