The NBA Core Four

Welcome to the Core Four where we share four core plays for FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for your NBA DFS contests on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

In this article, I will be giving you four players to target in your cash game lineups for FantasyDraft. They will consist of two guards with one of the guards being a value play and two forwards/centers with one of those players being a value play as well.

Guard

D’Angelo Russell-$14,400-BKN

Before I get into why I want to play Russell tonight I am wanted to talk about why all four players you see in this article is from the Nets-Magic game. The reason you are seeing four players from that game is simple, both teams play at a fast pace and don’t play defense. This game is projected to be an up and down game that is very high scoring as their game on Saturday was. In that game, there were 247 points scored and with both teams averaging at least 117 points per game we should see a similar number if not more points scored tonight. With that out of the way lets’ get into why Russell is my top guard on this slate. Besides the match-up, the reason why Russell is my top guard on this slate is the way Russell has played this season. Russell has embraced his role as the lead dog with the Nets and in his three games, this season Russell is averaging 21 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7 assists and 1.7 steals. Russell has produced at least 30 fantasy points in each of his three games and has produced over 40 fantasy points in two of the three. Now the one game that Russell did not hit the 40 fantasy point mark was against the Magic but I am going to write that game off as Russell only played 25 minutes in that game which I don’t see happening again tonight and had eight turnovers which I also don’t see happening again tonight. Russell should get back to the 40 fantasy point mark with ease tonight and on this small slate, he is one of the first players I am putting into my lineups.

Value Guard

D.J. Augustin-$10,100-ORL

The reason why Russell is going to be one of the first players in my lineup tonight and not the first is that that honor belongs to D.J. Augustin. Augustin is a must play for me tonight as Elfrid Payton has already been ruled out. With Payton out, Augustin is going to get the start and on Saturday when he started for Payton, Augustin showed that he can still play. Augustin had a huge double-double in that game with 12 points and 10 assists while also grabbing four rebounds and picking up a steal on his way to 36.5 fantasy points. While I am not sure Augustin can hit that level of production again tonight I do expect him to easily hit the 30 plus fantasy point mark in this match-up which makes would easily pay off his salary.

Forward/Center

Nikola Vucevic-$15,300-ORL

There are a lot of great forward/centers on this slate and I am going to be spending up for several of them. One of those players that I know I am going to be spending up for is Vucevic as he has been dominate in this young season. In his three games, Vucevic is averaging 27.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.7 blocks+steals. Vucevic has produced at least 40 fantasy points in each of those games with a huge 63 point performance against the Nets team he faces tonight. In that game, Vuecvic had 41 points and 12 rebounds and while we cannot count on Vuecvic scoring 40 points tonight we can count on his easily producing over 50 fantasy points as the Nets are allowing over 60 fantasy points per game to centers this season.

Value Forward/Center

DeMarre Carroll-$9,800-BKN

Carroll is a player that I really like tonight for a couple of reasons. The first reason is obviously the match-up as once again I am going to be stacking the Nets-Magic game on this slate. The second reason is the way Carroll is playing. Carroll struggled last season as he was never truly healed with his leg injury but this season he looks healthy and like the player he was with the Hawks. In his three games this season, Carroll is averaging 14.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.2 blocks+steals. Carroll has produced at least 25 fantasy points in each of those games and has back-to-back games with at least 30 fantasy points with one of those games coming against the Magic. I don’t see any reason why Carroll doesn’t hit that level of production against tonight and he is my favorite player on this slate under $10,000 in salary.
