The NBA Core Four

Welcome to the Core Four where we share four core plays for FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for your NBA DFS contests on Wednesday, October 18, 2017.

In this article, I will be giving you four players to target in your cash game lineups for FantasyDraft. They will consist of two guards with one of the guards being a value play and two forwards/centers with one of those players being a value play as well.

Guard

D’Angelo Russell-$12,300-BKN

I really love the salary on Russell tonight as he is too cheap for his new role. The Nets traded for Russell in the offseason for him to be the face of their franchise. While Russell was not ready for that role with the Lakers he looks to be ready for that role now. In his four games this preseason despite not shooting the ball well at all and only playing 23.8 minutes, Russell averaged 17 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds and 2.3 steals. Russell should easily put up a similar stat line this season as he should play closer to 34 minutes a game. With the Nets-Pacers game having a very high expected point total and projected to be the second fastest paced game on the slate, I have no doubt in my mind that Russell’s big season starts tonight.

Value Guard

Jaylen Brown-$7,700-BOS

I don’t see how Brown is not the first player you insert into your lineups tonight. Brown was already expected to play a ton of minutes for Boston this season with the losses of Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder in the offseason and may not come off the floor with Gordon Hayward done for the season. Last night, Brown played just shy of 40 minutes and I barely came off the floor after the Hayward injury. Brown not only played a lot of minutes last night but he had his best career game as he put up 25 points, six rebounds, and two steals on his way to 36 fantasy points. Now tonight I don’t expect Brown to score 25 points again but I do expect Brown to score in double digits with similar peripheral stats and for him to easily pay off his dirt cheap salary.

Forward/Center

Giannis Antetokounmpo-$18,300-MIL

I am the biggest Greek Freak fan in the world and I have been waiting for the NBA season just so I can roster him. Giannis when he finally figures out how good he truly is is going to be unstoppable as he almost already is. The Alphabet does everything on the court and is coming off a season in which he averaged a stat line of 22.9/8.8/5.4 with 1.98 blocks and 1.6 steals. Not only can Giannis do it all but I like the matchup for him tonight against Boston. Boston is coming off an emotional game last night in a loss to the Cavs and really has no one who can stop Giannis. This might be a hot take but I am calling for Giannis to flirt with a triple-double tonight and to easily produce over 50 fantasy points.

Value Forward/Center

Aaron Gordon-$12,900-ORL

I don’t love the matchup for Gordon as he has to face a very good Miami Heat defense but at his salary, I am having a hard time passing him over. If the preseason is any indication Gordon looks like he is ready to make the leap into stardom. Gordon just looked like a totally different player in those warm-up games and the numbers showed this as Gordon averaged 18.4 points and 7.4 rebounds in 24 minutes of action. Gordon should easily have that level of production in the regular season in more minutes and I believe his coming out party starts tonight despite the matchup.
