The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players and one bonus play on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.

If you are new to this article or forgot the format in this article I will give you a pitcher, infielder, and outfielder I am going to building my lineups around regardless of salary. I will end the article with my utility player to target. The utility player to target is my favorite hitter on this slate and the player I am going to have the most exposure to tonight.

Pitcher to Target

Robbie Ray-$25,200-ARI

No need to get cute on the mound tonight as there are plenty of value hitters on this slate that fitting in the high priced pitchers should not be an issue. Ray is my favorite of the high priced pitchers for a couple of reasons. The first reason why Ray is my favorite pitcher is the simple fact that only one pitcher in baseball is pitching better than him right now. In Ray’s five starts since coming off the DL, Ray has allowed a total of five runs while striking out 55 batters in 32.1 innings of work. Ray is averaging 35.31 fantasy points per game in those starts. The only pitcher who can top Ray and it is very close is Corey Kluber who has been the best pitcher in baseball this season. The second reason why Ray is my top pitcher is due to the matchup against the Padres. The Padres are one of the worst hitting teams in baseball against left-handed pitching. This season they have the second lowest team wOBA and third highest team K rate against left-handed pitching. Ray dominated them two starts ago with 12 strikeouts and two runs allowed in six innings and call me crazy but I am expecting even bigger numbers from him tonight.

Infielder to Target

Sam Travis-$6,800-BOS

Travis is my favorite of the many great value hitters on this slate tonight. Travis has been excellent in his short career against left-handed pitching. In his 41 plate appearances against left-handed pitching, Travis has 14 hits with five doubles and ten runs scored. Travis is slashing .400/.488/.543 with an ISO of .143 and a wOBA of .445 in those appearances. Not only has Travis proven that he can hit left-handed pitching but the matchup is one I love to target right-handed hitters against. Wade Miley is a total gas can against right-handed hitting and this season he is allowing them to slash .297/.385/.483 with a .372 wOBA. Travis has reached base safely every time he has faced Miley in his career and I like him to continue that trend tonight.

Outfielder to Target

Lorenzo Cain-$6,800-KC

Cain is a steal tonight at his salary for him to be facing a bad left-handed pitcher. Brett Anderson has been terrible the past couple of seasons and this season he is allowing right-handed hitters to slash .291/.352/.510 with a .362 wOBA. The numbers are down on Cain against lefties this season but he has shown in the past that he has the ability to crush them. Just last season, Cain slashed .371/.420/.596 with an ISO of .225 and a wOBA of .418 against them. Cain is also hitting the ball well right now as he has hits in 11 of his past 14 games with six multi-hit games in that time frame.

Utility Player to Target

Rhys Hoskins-$8,400-PHI

I know the Phillies are facing Alex Wood who is a great pitcher and was downright dominant in the first half of the season but that doesn’t bother me tonight. Wood has actually not been that good in the second half of the season and in his three starts prior to his great start against the Nationals, Wood was awful. In those starts, Wood allowed 12 runs and six home runs. The home run number is what jumped out at me especially when you look at a hitter like Hoskins. Hoskins is a budding star and has been the best power hitter in major league history through his first 39 games. In those games, Hoskins is slugging .739 with an ISO of .440 and a major league record 18 home runs. If Wood has not fixed his home run problems which I don’t think he has Hoskins is going to make him pay. I am calling it now Hoskins takes Wood deep tonight.
