Top Picks & Targets for NFL Week 3

In this article, I will be breaking down some of my top NFL plays on FantasyDraft position by position. I will be giving my top-ranked player at each position regardless and the reasons why I like them. I will also give you a FLEX player and this player will be my favorite player of the week at either of the skill positions minus quarterback. Now you may not be able to fit all five of these players in your lineup due to salary constrictions as while I am taking salary into account when making these plays I am not building an actual roster. This goal is with this article along with the value plays article that I will be writing later on in the week is meant to be a base to help you construct your winning lineups.

Matt Ryan-$13,300-ATL

I don’t love the upper tier of quarterbacks this week and will personally be spending down at the position. With that being said if you choose to spend up at the position, Ryan is the quarterback I would want. After winning the MVP last season Ryan has picked right up where he left off this season with two straight solid games. In those games, Ryan has 573 yards passing and two touchdown passes. Ryan produced at least 14 fantasy points in both of those games. This week I am expecting more of the same from Ryan despite the not so great matchup with a surprisingly stout Lions defense.

Running Back

Jay Ajayi-$14,500-MIA

Picking just one or two running backs is tough this week as there are so many good running backs in great spots this week. Ajayi is just one of the running backs I am going to be targeting this week. Ajayi looked great in week one against the Chargers with 122 rushing yards on 28 attempts. The attempts are the number that jumped out at me as the Dolphins seem like they are committed to giving Ajayi a heavy workload this season. Besides the number of touches that Ajayi saw in week one the matchup for Ajayi this week really stood out to me as well. The Jets with the loss of Sheldon Richardson have been a terrible run defense. In the first two weeks of the season, the Jets are allowing 185 rushing yards per game which is the most in the NFL. The Jets also rank in the bottom five in DVOA to running backs and fantasy points allowed per game to the position. The game flow should also be in Ajayi’s favor as the Dolphins are huge six-point favorites on the road.

Wide Receiver

Kelvin Benjamin-$12,600-CAR

I think spending down at wide receiver to the mid-tier players is the smart move this week. There are a bunch of great mid-tier players in great spots this week. Benjamin is one of my favorite of those wideouts as he gets to face the Saints. The Saints pass defense has been abysmal for a couple of seasons now and it has not gotten any better this year. The Saints through the first two weeks of the season rank dead last in passing yards allowed per game at 389 and passing touchdowns allowed per game at 3. The Saints also are allowing 46.4 fantasy points per game to wideouts which is the most in the NFL. Benjamin has gotten off to a slow start to this season with only seven catches for 102 yards but he should break out in this matchup. I would not be shocked to see Benjamin double his production from the first two weeks this week.

Tight End

Zach Ertz-$9,300-PHI

Ertz is becoming a superstar right before our eyes. After closing out last season in a big way, Ertz has picked up his game, even more, this season as Carson Wentz favorite target. Through the first two weeks of the season, Ertz has 13 catches for 190 yards on 18 targets. The yards are third in the NFL out of all players while the receptions and targets rank second for tight ends. With a matchup against the Giants, we can only expect Ertz to add to those totals in a big way as the Giants struggle against tight ends. Through the first two weeks of the season, the Giants rank in the bottom third in DVOA against the position while allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game.

Kareem Hunt-$15,000-KC

I had Hunt here last week and he paid off for me big time with another huge game with 109 total yards and two touchdowns. Hunt through the first two games of the season leads the NFL in rushing with 229 yards, receiving yards by a running back with 126 and total touchdowns with five. Hunt has produced at least 25 fantasy points in each of those games. Now I know what you might be saying there is no way Hunt can keep up this pace and while I agree that Hunt is bound to regress in the touchdown department I don’t think he regresses in the yards department. Hunt is that talented and plays for a coach in Andy Reid that has shown he knows how to use running backs with Hunt’s skill set. Besides even if Hunt were to regress I don’t think it is going to be this week against the Chargers. The Chargers have struggled to stop the run all season long and rank 26th in rushing yards allowed per game. Now the Chargers have not allowed a rushing touchdown this season but last season they allowed the third most rushing touchdowns in the NFL. Hunt is poised to have a yet another big game and even though his salary has risen quite a bit from last week he is still too cheap in my eyes as he is just the third most expensive running back on the slate.

Good luck with NFL this week!
