The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players and one bonus play on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Tuesday, September 12, 2017.

If you are new to this article or forgot the format in this article I will give you a pitcher, infielder, and outfielder I am going to building my lineups around regardless of salary. I will end the article with my utility player to target. The utility player to target is my favorite hitter on this slate and the player I am going to have the most exposure to tonight.

Pitcher to Target

Eduardo Rodriguez-$13,200-BOS

This slate has a lot of great pitching options on it and I don’t think you really need to get cute at the position in cash games. There are enough value hitters on this slate that rostering two of the top pitchers like Clayton KershawJustin Verlander, and Corey Kluber, for example, won’t be hard to do. GPPs, however, is a different story. Due to the high ownership levels you are likely to see on the top guys tonight I have no problem spending down at the position for at least one of my pitchers. While there are a couple of mid-tier and cheap pitchers that intrigue me tonight, Rodriguez is my favorite of the group. Rodriguez is a boom or bust pitcher that has the ability to shut down teams while racking up the strikeouts but also has shown that he can implode at any time. Tonight I think we see the good Rodriguez show up as the A’s are a great matchup for him. The A’s are awful against left-handed pitching and this season they rank 26th in team wOBA, 22nd in team wRC+ and 22nd in team ISO against lefties. The A’s are also a strikeout happy team that has the sixth highest team K rate at 24.2% against lefties this season. While the risk is still there with Rodriguez at his salary in this matchup the potential reward makes him well worth that risk.

Infielder to Target

Yonder Alonso-$7,200-SEA

I am going to be game stacking the Mariners-Rangers game tonight as that game has a very high projected run total of 11.6 tonight. Both pitchers in that game are total gas cans and the bullpens for both teams are not that good either. Alonso is one of my favorite hitters from that game as he is a) very affordable and b) has been excellent against right-handed pitching all season long. Alonso this season has an OPS of .890, an ISO of .233 and a wOBA of .375 against righties. Miguel Gonzalez as I mentioned is also a really bad pitcher and really struggles against left-handed hitting. This season, Gonzalez is allowing lefties to slug .505 with a .358 wOBA. Alonso who is struggling a bit as he has gone hitless in his past three games should turn things around tonight and dominate this matchup.

Outfielder to Target

Andrew McCutchen-$7,600-PIT

McCutchen is too cheap for me to pass up tonight for a couple of reasons. The first reason why I cannot pass on Cutch tonight is due to the way he is hitting the ball. McCutchen has reached base safely in eight straight games and in those games, he has reached safely multiple times five times. The second reason I want to play McCutchen tonight is that he is facing a left-handed pitcher. McCutchen has been one of the best in the majors this season against lefties with an OPS of 1.093, an ISO of .362 and a wOBA of .446. The left-handed pitcher he is facing Brent Suter is also not a good pitcher and this season he is allowing right-handed hitters to slug .426 with a .321 wOBA. McCutchen should easily extend his on-base streak to nine games tonight and once again at his salary he is a player I am not going to be passing on.

Utility Player to Target

Brian Dozier-$9,900-MIN

I am all over Dozier tonight as he gets to face off against Travis Wood. Wood is a really bad left-handed pitcher who comes into tonight’s start with an ERA of 6.00, a WHIP of 1.72 and an HR/9 rate of 1.44. Most of the damage done to Wood this season has been by right-handed hitters as Wood is allowing them to slash .312/.384/.513 with a .381 wOBA this season. That is great news for a hitter like Dozier as Dozier is a right-handed hitter who murders left-handed pitching. This season, Dozier has an OPS of 1.014, an ISO of .275 and a wOBA of .421 against them. Dozier should easily produce double-digit fantasy points tonight and I would not be shocked to see him as the highest scoring player on this slate.
