The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players and one bonus play on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

If you are new to this article or forgot the format in this article I will give you a pitcher, infielder, and outfielder I am going to building my lineups around regardless of salary. I will end the article with my utility player to target. The utility player to target is my favorite hitter on this slate and the player I am going to have the most exposure to tonight.

Pitcher to Target

Jack Flaherty-$12,400-STL

Flaherty struggled in his major league debut allowing five runs on eight hits in just four innings of action but when you look at his advanced stats for that game Flaherty didn’t really pitch as bad as the numbers would say. Flaherty was a bit unlucky in his debut as his BABIP allowed was .538 and his LOB % was 52.6%. Both of those numbers are bound to drop and in a hurry. Flaherty also showed that he has the ability to strike out batters with six strikeouts in his debut and his debut was against a Giants team that rarely strikes out. Those advanced stats along with the strikeouts have me looking at Flaherty’s debut with a grain of salt. Instead of focusing on that one game I am looking at his great minor league numbers and his match-up for tonight against the Padres. The Padres in case you have been living under a rock this season are one of if not the worst team in the majors against right-handed pitching. This season they have the second lowest team wOBA and second highest team K rate against them. Not only is the matchup favorable and Flaherty a talented pitcher but he is also dirt cheap. At under $13,000 in salary in this matchup on a slate that is lacking pitching options outside of Carlos Carrasco I really don’t see how Flaherty is not your SP2 tonight.

Infielder to Target

Anthony Rendon-$9,000-WAS

Rendon never gets enough love in fantasy circles and it is a shame. Rendon is having a career year and has been one of the best third basemen in baseball. Rendon has especially excelled against left-handed pitching this season and that is why I want to target him tonight. This season Rendon is slashing .337/.447/.663 with an ISO of .326 and a wOBA of .453 against lefties. The left-handed pitcher he is facing is also a pitcher I am going to be targeting hitters against in Dillon Peters. Peters did have an excellent first start of his career with eight strikeouts in seven scoreless innings but that game was against the Phillies who are one of the weakest hitting team in the majors against lefties. You have to take that start with a grain of salt especially when you factor in that Peters had a BABIP allowed of just .188 in that game. That number is going to jump and likely in this game as the Nationals led by Rendon are one of the best hitting teams in the majors. I like Rendon to have at least two hits with one extra base hit tonight and he is a player that I will have in the majority of my lineups tonight.

Outfielder to Target

Jose Ramirez-$10,800-CLE

One reason why I am going cheap at pitcher tonight is to be able to afford this man. I have been riding Ramirez for the past week and he has paid off each time. Right now I cannot fade Ramirez as he is hotter than anyone in baseball. In his past 12 games, Ramirez has been on a tear with a slash line of .431/.453/1.039. Ramirez has an ISO of .608 and a wOBA of .602 to go along with that slash line in those games. Ramirez has been especially hot over his past four games. In those games, Ramirez has reached base safely at least twice in each game. Ramirez has three doubles, a triple and five home runs in those four games. Not only is Ramirez hot but the matchup is an excellent one as he gets to face off against Reynaldo Lopez. Lopez has really struggled in limited innings this season against left-handed hitters which is the side of the plate Ramirez will be hitting from as he is allowing them to slash .294/.368/.647 with a .419 wOBA. Ramirez should easily have another multi-hit game tonight and while I am not sure Ramirez will get another home run I do think that one of his two hits will be an extra-base hit as Ramirez is the MLB leader in that category.

Utility Player to Target

Charlie Blackmon-$10,800-COL

Blackmon at home against a right-handed pitcher has been a must play for me all season. Blackmon has been a monster at Coors all season and against right-handed pitching, he has an OPS of 1.284, an ISO of .420 and a wOBA of .516. Blackmon also gets a favorable matchup tonight against Johnny Cueto. Cueto is a good pitcher who has actually had success at Coors but he has struggled this season and is making just his second start since coming off the DL. Blackmon has also had some success against Cueto as he does has ten hits in his 32 at-bats against him. I like Blackmon who has three multi-hit games in his past five games to have another multi-hit game in this one.
