The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players and one bonus play on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Thursday, August 24, 2017.

If you are new to this article or forgot the format in this article I will give you a pitcher, infielder, and outfielder I am going to building my lineups around regardless of salary. I will end the article with my utility player to target. The utility player to target is my favorite hitter on this slate and the player I am going to have the most exposure to tonight.

Pitcher to Target

Jose Berrios-$16,800-MIN

Despite this being a small six game slate the pitcher position is loaded. There are seven pitchers that are worth rostering on this slate. Berrios is the pitcher I want to talk about tonight as he is the pitcher I am finding myself having the most exposure to. The reason why Berrios is the pitcher I find myself having the most exposure to tonight is that of three factors. The first factor is his talent. After struggling in his rookie season last year, Berrios is starting to live up to his hype this season and comes into tonight’s game with an ERA of 3.99, a WHIP of 1.15 and a K rate of 21.5%. Berrios is also coming off one of the best starts in his career as he only allowed two hits while walking one and striking out seven in seven shutout innings his last time out. The second factor or reason why I want to play Berrios tonight is the match-up. The White Sox have struggled against right-handed pitching all season long and come into tonight’s game with the third lowest team wOBA and eight highest team K rate of 22.5% against them. Berrios dominated them when he faced them earlier in the season with eight strikeouts and only two runs allowed in eight innings. The last and final factor in why I have a ton of exposure to Berrios is his salary. Berrios is a big discount off of the other pitchers on this slate at only $16,800 in salary and he allows you to not only roster one of the more expensive pitchers as your second pitcher but also allows you to roster some of the hitters you are going to want to have exposure to on this slate. Berrios to me is the perfect combination of talent, match-up, and salary tonight.

Infielder to Target

Jefry Marte-$5,400-LAA

I know Marte is a really bad hitter but I am having a hard time passing him over at this salary. Marte at only $5,400 in salary is dirt cheap and allows you to roster a ton of big name hitters. The match-up is also an excellent one for Marte as the Angles get to face off against the left-handed Martin Perez. Perez is an awful pitcher and he really struggles against right-handed hitting. This season, Perez is allowing righties to slash .309/.371/.501 with a wOBA of .368. Marte has also had some success against Perez in his short career with a home run and five rbis in eight at bats. This may be a total gut call but I like Marte to have at least one hit with a rbi tonight. If Marte is able to have that level of production it would easily pay off his salary.

Outfielder to Target

Byron Buxton-$8,800-MIN

Buxton has looked like the player the Twins and a lot of major league scouts thought he would be in the second half of the season. Since the all-star break, Buxton is slashing .305/.344/.549 with an ISO of .244 and a wOBA of .369. Before failing to reach base safely the past two games, Buxton had also been as consistent as they get with an on-base streak of 19 straight games. Not only is Buxton hitting the ball well the match-up is a dream one as Buxton and the Twins face off against Derek Holland. Holland may be the worst pitcher on this slate and this season he has really struggled against right-handed hitters. Holland is allowing righties to slash .303/.401/.577 with a .410 wOBA this season. Holland has a WHIP of 1.84 and an HR/9 rate of 2.38 against righties as well. Buxton and the Twins, in general, should have a huge night at the plate.

Utility Player to Target

Brian Dozier-$10,400-MIN

Brian Dozier is my top ranked hitter on this slate tonight and it is not even close. Dozier has destroyed left-handed pitching throughout his career and this season has been no different as Dozer has an OPS of 1.023, an ISO of .267 and a wOBA of .424 against them. The left-hander Dozier is facing Derek Holland is also awful as I talked about earlier in this article with my write up on Bryon Buxton. Dozier is going to dominate poor Holland tonight. I am going to call my shot with Dozier and not only say that Dozier takes Holland deep tonight but say that if he faces Holland at least three times which is a big if as Holland is likely to get pulled early that Dozier has two dongs in this one.
