The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players and one bonus play on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Tuesday, August 22, 2017.

If you are new to this article or forgot the format in this article I will give you a pitcher, infielder, and outfielder I am going to building my lineups around regardless of salary. I will end the article with my utility player to target. The utility player to target is my favorite hitter on this slate and the player I am going to have the most exposure to tonight.

Pitcher to Target

Lance Lynn-$14,800-STL

There are a ton of great pitching options to chose from tonight. While you cannot go wrong with the likes of Jimmy Nelson or Chris Archer I wanted to focus on a cheap pitcher that is likely to fly under the radar tonight in Lance Lynn. Lynn is not a pitcher that initially jumps out at you as a great option but when you dig into the numbers he should. Lynn has been excellent as of late for the Cardinals with eight straight quality starts. In those starts, Lynn has an ERA of 1.46 and has produced at least 19 fantasy points five times. Not only is Lynn pitching well right now but the match-up is one I love to target pitchers against. The Padres while better since the all-star break are a horrible hitting team and this season they have the second lowest team wOBA and team wRC+ against right-handed pitching. The Padres are also a strikeout happy team as they have a team K rate of 25.3% against righties which is the second worst mark in the majors. The tendency of the Padres to strike out also adds to Lynn’s appeal tonight as Lynn is not normally a big strikeout guy. The salary of Lynn also plays into his allure tonight as rostering Lynn allows you the roster flexibility needed to roster some of the big bats you are going to want on this slate.

Infielder to Target

Nick Delmonico-$7,600-CHW

Since being called up to the majors on August 1st all Nicky has done is hit the ball. In his 19 career games, Delmonico is slashing .343/.443/.642 with an ISO of .299 and a wOBA of .453. Delmonico has 15 runs scored, 12 rbis, two stolen bases and six home runs in those games. Delmonico has been especially great as of late for the White Sox as he has produced at least nine fantasy points in six of his past eight games. With a match-up against Kyle Gibson who is allowing left-handed hitters to slash .304/.379/.505 with a .376 wOBA to left-handed hitters I fully expect Delmonico to continue his hot hitting ways tonight.

Outfielder to Target

Kole Calhoun-$6,900-LAA

Calhoun is one of my favorite value hitters on this slate. After struggling for most of the season, Calhoun has been excellent in the month of August with an OPS of .927, an ISO of .200 and a wOBA of .396. Calhoun has reached base safely in 13 of his 17 games this month including in five straight games. The match-up for Calhoun is also one I like to target hitters with. Tyson Ross has been really bad this season and though he has excellent numbers against left-handed hitting I don’t think he can sustain those numbers as Ross has been awful against them in years past. Just last season before getting hurt Ross allowed lefties to slash .412/.444/.588 with a .442 wOBA granted that was a limited sample size. No matter how you look at it Calhoun should have another nice game tonight and at his salary, he is going to be a staple of my cash game line-ups.

Utility Player to Target

J.D. Martinez-$9,300-ARI

I am all in on Mr. Martinez tonight. Martinez is just in too good of a spot for me to not play him tonight. Martinez gets to face a bad left-handed pitcher in Tommy Milone tonight and Martinez against left-handed pitching has equaled profit. Martinez has been the best hitter in baseball against lefties with an OPS of 1.436, an ISO of .518 and a wOBA of .564. Milone, as I mentioned, is also really bad and this season he is allowing right-handed hitters to slash .366/.408/.696 with a .452 wOBA. Milone also has trouble keeping right-handed hitters in the park as he has an HR/9 rate of 3.70 against them this season. Martinez is going to go deep at least once tonight and you are taking a huge risk if you decide to fade Martinez tonight.
