The Target Line: WGC Bridgestone Invitational

Welcome to the first edition of The Target Line.  Each week I will share key stats and golfers that I will be using in my lineups on FantasyDraft.  I run tests and numbers for a living and am a huge sports fan, so DFS is a perfect outlet for me on my down time. So let’s dive into the week with the WGC Bridgestone Invitational!

The WGC Bridgestone is played in Akron, Ohio on the Firestone CC (South) course.  It is a Par 70 and comes in at 7,400 yards.  The course is noted for its length and includes a par 5 that plays 667 yards.  Even the par 3’s are long with all measuring close or more than 200 yards.

As I am sure everyone knows by now, this is a NO-CUT event.  Barring any WD’s, our guys get to enjoy all four rounds.  Being guaranteed all four rounds, one low round can rack you up some FantasyDraft points.

So what stats do we want to target and who fits our mold this week?

  • SG: T2G (30%) Always important
  • SG: PUTTING (15%) fast, undulating greens
  • APPROACH >200 YDS (20%) high % of shots could come from here
  • BOGEY OR BETTER [BoB]% (10%) need scorers in a no-cut
  • BOGEY OR WORSE% (10%) tough course, avoid the big #’s
  • SCRAMBLING% (10%) long approaches could mean greens missed
  • DRIVING DISTANCE [DD] (5%) distance helps here 7,400+

We will also look at current form over last three weeks and course history.

Rickie Fowler $17,100

  • Stats: SG:T2G= 11th, SG:P= 3rd, App >200= 7th, BoB%= 3rd, Bogey Avoidance= 13th, Scrambling= 9th, DD= 37th
  • Last 3 Tournaments= 22nd, 9th, 3rd
  • Relevant course history= 10th, 10th, 8th, 21st, 59th
  • Love Rickie this week! He is my pick to win. What isn’t Fowler good at?

Marc Leishman  $15,400

  • Stats: SG:T2G= 20th, SG:P= 29th, App >200= 44th, BoB%= 34th, Bogey Avoidance= 15th, Scrambling= 45th, DD= 41st
  • Last 3 Tournaments= 6th, 5th, 17th
  • Relevant course history= 55th, 33rd, 3rd, DNP, 45th
  • Leishman has been in great form, fits the stats I’m looking for, and has finished 3rd here before…count me in!

Daniel Berger  $15,400

  • Stats: SG:T2G= 29th, SG:P= 14th, App >200= 54th, BoB%= 12th, Bogey Avoidance= 24th, Scrambling= 27th, DD= 57th
  • Last 3 Tournaments= 27th, 5th, 2nd
  • Relevant course history= WD last year, no history
  • Berger caught heat last year when he withdrew after his first tee shot. I was included in that carnage, but no bias here; a proven scorer and winner.

Russell Henley  $13,900

  • Stats: SG:T2G= 43rd, SG:P= 9th, App >200= 146th, BoB%= 37th, Bogey Avoidance= 14th, Scrambling= 85th, DD= 47th
  • Last 3 Tournaments= 37th, 5th, 46th
  • Relevant course history= DNP, 17th, 41st, 27th, DNP
  • If Russell is able to get himself birdie putts this week in bunches, he could get on a heater. Having a great 2017 and a good value this week for me.

Kyle Stanley  $12,700

  • Stats: SG:T2G= 5th, SG:P= 155th, App >200= 36th, BoB%= 23rd, Bogey Avoidance= 22nd, Scrambling= 82nd, DD= 68th
  • Last 3 Tournaments= MC, 55th, 1st
  • Relevant course history= only appearance finished 16th in 2012
  • Going to have to have drop low to find some relief and I am rolling with Stanley. If he can hang tight with the putter, the rest of his game has been clicking!

Others in line of sight:  Rahm, Pieters, Kisner, Schwartzel

There’s the Target Line for the WGC Bridgestone Invitational!  Be sure to keep up with any withdraw news and the weather.  As of now, there are some thunderstorms expected on Thursday and Friday.  It is the weather though and it changes quickly, so just be aware of it.  Enjoy the week, good luck, and make sure and check out the weekly contests on FantasyDraft.
