The MLB Daily Three Pack

Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players on FantasyDraft that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Tuesday, August 1, 2017.

Pitcher to Target

Dallas Keuchel-$20,400-HOU

Pitching is blah tonight and I am not going to get cute at the position and I am locking in Keuchel. Keuchel is the only pitcher worth a darn tonight as this season he has an ERA of 1.94, a K rate of 23.9% and a WHIP of 0.95. Keuchel also pitches deep into games due to his elite ground ball rate of 66.3%. That ground ball rate has allowed Keuchel to get a bunch of easy outs without racking up his pitch count. Keuchel if you take away his last start as he was on a pitch count in his first start back from the DL averages just under seven innings pitched per game. I also love the match-up for Keuchel as he gets to face the Rays. The Rays do not hit left-handed pitching well at all. This season they rank 22nd in team wOBA against them while having the second highest team K rate at 25.9%. Keuchel is going to cost you a pretty penny tonight but should be worth it as he should easily be the highest scoring pitcher on this slate.

Infielder to Target

Robinson Cano-$8,000-SEA

I love the price tag on Cano tonight who gets to tee off against a bad right-handed pitcher in Andrew Cashner. Cashner’s numbers are not that bad this season but he has been one of the luckiest pitchers in baseball and he is bound to regress sooner than later. One area that Cashner’s numbers reflect how bad of a pitcher he truly is, is his numbers against left-handed hitting at home this season. Cashner is allowing lefties to slash .296/.405/.493 with a .387 wOBA in those situations this season. Cashner is allowing them to have hard contact 34.4% of the time and is struggling to keep them in the park with an HR/9 rate of 2.00. To make matters even worst Cashner has walked more left handed hitters at home this season than he has struck out. All of those numbers are going to get Cashner in trouble against a great hitter like Cano. Cano has been a terror against right-handed pitching throughout his career and this season is no different as he is slugging .517 with an ISO of .236 and a wOBA of .358 against them. Cano is also smoking hot right now as he has five hits with three doubles and six rbis in his past three games. I fully expect Cano to add to those numbers tonight and he is a must play for me at his salary.

Outfielder to Target

Charlie Blackmon-$10,800-COL

Blackmon is an obvious play tonight and will be super chalky but I am okay with that. Sometimes the chalk plays are the correct plays like Blackmon’s teammate Nolan Arenado was last night. Blackmon is an obvious play for the simple fact he is at home against a right-handed pitcher. Blackmon has been a monster this season in these situations with a .403/.474/.866 slash line. Blackmon also has an ISO of .462 and a wOBA of .536 to go along with that slash line. To make matters even better for Blackmon the right-handed pitcher he is facing in Chris Flexen is only making his second career start. While Flexen is going to be a good pitcher in the majors one day he looked over matched in his first career start allowing four runs on five hits and four walks in just three innings. To make that start even worst it was against the Padres who are one of the worst hitting teams in the majors. Flexen should struggle once again tonight and Blackmon and all of the Rockies hitters should have a big day at the plate.

Utility Player to Target

Jesse Winker-$6,000-CIN

Winker was a player I was put onto late yesterday and he paid off for me with a home run and I am going back to the well with the Reds rookie again tonight. The reason why I am so high on Winker is the simple fact that the man has done nothing but hit since he was called up to the majors. Winker has four starts in his career and in those starts he has come through with at least one hit and either and rbi or run scored. In those four starts, Winker has produced at least seven fantasy points and is averaging 10.25 fantasy points in those games. That is elite production for any player let alone a value player like Winker. I also really like the match-up for Winker as he gets to face Trevor Williams. Williams has pitched better as of late but is not a very good pitcher and he really struggles against left-handed hitting. In his short career, Williams is allowing lefties to slash .294/.345/.456 with a .344 wOBA. Winker should be able to take advantage of those struggles and I like Winker to score in double-digit fantasy points once again tonight.
