MLB Tournament Thoughts with DraftCheat

Tonight on FantasyDraft, we have a nice $10,000 Home Run with a very favorable $25 price point.  The other thing to keep in mind is that 25% of the field will win tonight and with a 12 entry maximum on this tournament, no single player will overwhelm the entry pool.

Starting Pitcher

Jeff Samardzija – SD @ SF – $17,600

Our first pitcher gets the benefit of pitching in arguably the best pitcher’s park in baseball plus an enticing matchup with the Padres. Shark carries a very affordable price tag and sports a ground ball rate over 40%. He’s known for pounding the zone and eating innings, which should produce strong results against the Padres in cavernous AT&T Park.

Trevor Cahill SD @ SF – $16,400

The second pitcher I’m looking at tonight is Samardzija’s mound opponent Trevor Cahill. Cahill has an even higher GB% than Samardzija, and offers more K upside as his O-Swing, Z-Swing, and Swinging Strike rate are all higher than Samardzija. Cahill is (surprise) my favorite pitcher on the slate.

Justin Bour – MIA @ CIN – $9,000

Bour and his fellow Marlins get one of the biggest park shifts on the slate; going from cavernous Marlins Park to Great American Ballpark and its notoriously short right field porch. This bodes well for the lefty against Homer Bailey, who is surrendering 2.5 HR/9 and a 30% HR to FB rate.

Mike Moustakas – KC @ CWS – $7,200

Moose gets a fantastic LvR matchup against James Sheilds in a game where the temperatures are approaching triple digits, as well as a park upgrade from his home stadium.  Shields is giving up fly balls at a rate of nearly 50% and has a minuscule swinging strike percentage. The Royals are simply priced too low in this matchup.

Cody Bellinger – ATL @ LAD – $9,600

The Braves are in the process of finalizing a deal to send LHP Jaime Garcia to the Minnesota Twins. Whether the trade takes place today or not, it’s doubtful Garcia takes the bump for the Braves, who will then resort to Aaron Blair. Blair gives up flyballs and hard contact while not missing bats, posting a single digit swinging strike rate for the Braves over 150 IP between AAA and the major league club. Bellinger offers even more flexibility on Fantasy Draft as he carries IF/OF eligibility.

Christian Yelich – MIA @ CIN – $7,200

Yelich gets the park shift boost and matchup like teammate Justin Bour. While he doesn’t typically profile as a HR hitter, he certainly carries power upside tonight in GABP. Clearly, Yelich is a strong value play for those seeking savings.

Lorenzo Cain – KC @ CWS – $7,200

Cain also provides some nice salary relief for those in need. While he doesn’t have the power upside of his teammate Moustakas, Cain has a solid zone contact and hard hit percentage which should play well in the Kansas City heat.

Good luck out there tonight! ~ DraftCheat
