NBA Core 4: March 29

Good morning and welcome to another edition of the FantasyDraft “Core 4”, brought to you by DFSDatalytics.com!   We have ourselves a very large 10-game slate tonight with so many injury news.  Make sure you follow along somewhere to get your latest up to date news throughout the day.  If you join DFSDatalytics.com you can join our daily group chat that is active with our NBA team throughout the day.  Good luck tonight!

T.J. McConnell ($10,900)

We have one of my favorite situations tonight.  This is like the Ish Smith situation from last night.  There was word that back-up point guard for the Philadelphia 76ers Sergio Rodriguez will be out for a week.  Since that news was so late during the day, T.J. McConnell becomes the primary point guard and his minutes will be solidified.  The best part about McConnell tonight is that he is the same price that he was last night at only $10,900 on FantasyDraft.  Philadelphia ended up winning last night in Brooklyn and will now take their 17-57 talents up against the Atlanta Hawks tonight.  McConnell was outstanding last night in the victory as he ended up playing 35 minutes and recorded eight points and 10 assists.  With a few other peripherals, he ended his night with 32.0 FantasyDraft points.  What a bargain tonight!

The matchup sets apart the spot for McConnell tonight.  Atlanta is 24th in DvP vs point guards this season allowing 48.3 FantasyDraft PPG to the position.  After last night’s win, the Hawks are still tied for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference so this is a perfect spot for the 76ers to play spoiler tonight.  The only problem with McConnell is that he will be very popular as his price did not move, but his role and minutes became more stable.  A shocker for me is the line on tonight’s game.  Atlanta is only favored by -1.5 despite playing at home against a much inferior Philadelphia team.  Atlanta leads the season series 3-0, but for what it’s worth 17 of Philadelphia’s 28 wins have come at home this season.  This game is stackable if you pair Dwight Howard and Dennis Schroder from Atlanta with McConnell.

Blake Griffin ($14,600)

It’s not often that you get to roster an All-Star power forward at this cheap of a price.  Blake Griffin is only $14,600 on FantasyDraft tonight.  That is way too cheap for what he is capable of, especially in this matchup against the Washington Wizards.  The Los Angeles Clippers have won four of their last six games and have caught a break in their schedule.  Their last game was on Sunday as they have consecutive days off for the first time in a month.  Despite their off days, the Clippers clinched a playoff spot for the sixth consecutive season.  They remain sandwiched in the fifth seed in the Western Conference playoff picture.  They are 1.5 games back of the fourth seeded Utah Jazz who they hold the tie breaker over and 1.0 game above the Oklahoma City Thunder who they split with during the season.

The Washington Wizards come into tonight’s game playing on a back-to-back as they won in the same arena they’ll be playing again tonight against the Lakers 119-108.  The Wizards have won four straight games and are inching closer and closer to the top seed in the Eastern Conference.  They are 24th in DvP vs power forwards this season allowing 47.7 FantasyDraft PPG to the position.  To be honest, Blake Griffin has not played well lately at all, so the cheap price is well deserved.  He has recorded above 40.0 FantasyDraft points just once in his last eight games.  Taking a gamble on Griffin at this cheap price and fantastic matchup can pay off big time!  He is well rested and in their last matchup with the Wizards, Griffin recorded 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists with a healthy lineup.  Take the chance!

Greg Monroe ($10,200)

Another player I’m targeting who is in the thick of the playoff race is Greg Monroe.  Monroe and the Milwaukee Bucks have been on a tear this month.  They have won 12 of their last 15 games to catapult themselves in a tie for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference with the Atlanta Hawks.  Tonight, they’ll travel to Boston to take on the Celtics who currently hold down the top spot in the Eastern Conference.  They have won seven of their last eight games, so this game is sure to be a dandy.  The matchup for Monroe fits him very well tonight.  Boston is 24th in DvP vs center’s this season allowing an average of 51.5 FantasyDraft PPG to the position.  In his one meeting with Boston this season, Monroe had a great game!  He finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and three blocks while playing 35 minutes.

Greg Monroe has been one of the most consistent players all season when it comes to NBA DFS.  Monroe has scored double-digit points in 12 of his last 13 games.  John Henson has missed the last four games for the Bucks and during that time Monroe has averaged 14.5 PPG and 6.5 RPG.  Henson will be out again tonight due to injury.  The only downfall with Monroe is his minutes.  He has only played 30 or more minutes just eight times all season.  Regardless if Henson is out of the lineup or not, Monroe seems to be stuck around the 25 MPG mark as of late.  In the rare chance that Monroe has 30 or more minutes tonight, his price tag should not be $10,200 on FantasyDraft.  Given the upside that he has tonight and the matchup against the Celtics, Monroe should easily be able to pay off his price tonight.

Rudy Gobert ($16,000)

Since we have value at the other positions it’s time to pay up for someone who has received quite the price bump!  Rudy Gobert is all the way up to $16,000 on FantasyDraft tonight after being $14,700 last game against New Orleans.  There’s not a center who is playing as well as Rudy Gobert is as of late.  Gobert has recorded a double-double in six straight games as he’s averaged 21.7 PPG and 15.7 RPG during that time.  He’s also averaged an incredible 3.5 BPG over those six games.  Gobert continues to lead the entire league in blocks as he’s averaging 2.6 BPG.  That will pay dividends tonight as Utah’s opponent the Sacramento Kings have allowed 5.1 BPG which is the 11th most in the league.  If some people are off Gobert due to his price increase, that will be even better to have him at lower ownership.

As I mentioned above, Utah is right in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race as they are currently in the fourth seed.  Since they do not hold the tie breaker over the Clippers, they’ll need to rack up a few more wins to fend them off.  However, they will be without Derrick Favors for the 11th straight game and Gordon Hayward is questionable as he was unable to play last game due to injury.  Over the last two weeks without Favors in the lineup, Gobert has had a 22.9% usage rate and averages 1.35 FPPM.  If you take Gordon Hayward off the floor over those two weeks, Gobert has had a 29.5% usage rate and averages 1.53 FPPM despite the small sample size.  Over the last four weeks the Kings are 28th in DvP vs centers.  He’s a great play tonight and will be an even better play if Hayward is out.

With those four players locked into your rosters, you’ll be left with $12,075/per player remaining to fill out the rest of your lineup.  That provides plenty of strategy decisions to be made.  Good luck with all your contests today!
