NBA Thoughts: March 1

Welcome back to FantasyDraft NBA Thoughts where we try to identify three players who have a great shot at reaching 3x their salary-based value for tonight’s NBA slate. There are a lot of intriguing options today and many ways to construct a lineup, so I have narrowed down the player pool and will highlight three of my favorite plays here.

Chris Paul, $16,400 – He is certainly not coming at a discount tonight, and even though he’ll need to reach nearly 50 fantasy points to pay off this salary, CP3 should be on everyone’s short list of players to target. He has shown zero rust coming back from a long layoff due to a thumb injury, and at home against the high-flying Rockets Paul should play big minutes and fill up the box score in multiple categories. The Rockets play at an incredible pace (as the Vegas total of 232.5 certainly tells us) and the Clippers are just 1.5 point favorites here. This should be a very closely contested game and Paul has the upside to be among the very top fantasy performers of the night at a slight discount from the other studs. He also makes for a great pairing with either (or both) Blake Griffin – $16,800 and DeAndre Jordan – $13,200.

Hassan Whiteside, $15,300 – Opposing centers are destroying the Joel Embiid-less Sixers, and Whiteside is back to the dominant force we saw at the beginning of the season. He should dominate the glass against the poor rebounding of Jahlil Okafor, and should also have the opportunity to pick up multiple blocks against Okafor who gets his shot blocked at a higher frequency than almost any other center in the NBA. Whiteside is also better when he’s not playing on back to back (which is the case tonight) and when he’s at home (also the case tonight). This is a near perfect scenario for Whiteside to have a big game and he should easily reach the 45 fantasy points he needs to reach value.

Tyler Johnson, $10,100 – Whiteside’s teammate, Tyler Johnson, should fly far under the radar tonight but also has an outstanding matchup against the poor defense of the 76ers guards and in an up-tempo game at home. The 76ers have really picked up their pace of play recently and Johnson should benefit from the extra possessions and will likely spend some of this game matched up with Sergio Rodriguez who is a terrible defender. Johnson is an especially strong GPP play tonight with what should be very low ownership but upside to get 3-4x his salary-based value.

Good luck out there tonight! ~ DraftCheat
