NBA Value Bin: Grant’s Land

Friday features nine games of NBA action, and we get a little bit of a later start with a 7:30 pm ET tip-off. Those extra 30 minutes will be well worth the wait, as there are a myriad of superstars playing tonight. Searching for value among the cheaper players will help make those superstars a little more affordable.

Here are the top NBA DFS value plays for Friday, January 29.

Value Play of the Night

Jerian Grant, Knicks ($6,000)

Jose Calderon sat out Thursday’s game with a groin injury, and with a quick turnaround, there’s a pretty good chance he isn’t ready to suit up for Friday’s contest either.

Jerian Grant shined in place of Calderon on Thursday, scoring 13 points with six assists, four rebounds and two steals. His 31 fantasy points were the second-most of his young career, trailing only the 33.8 he had against the Celtics back on January 12.

The Knicks have been rumored to be exploring a trade for the Hawks’ Jeff Teague, which would either include Calderon or at least make him a stretch provision candidate. The savvy vet has been one of the worst starting point guards on defense this season. He is repeatedly burned by younger, faster players and has become a major liability for the Knicks on the defensive end. Playing the rookie Grant should become a priority even if they do end up acquiring Teague. With 21-plus minutes in three of his last four games, it looks like the changing of the guard (no pun intended) may be well underway.

As far as DFS goes, Friday’s matchup vs. the Suns couldn’t be any better. The Suns rank 29th vs. opposing point guards over the last two weeks and have really struggled of late, losing 17 of their last 19 games. They may be the worst team in the NBA.

Other Players to Consider

J.J. Barea, Mavericks ($7,700) – Barea has quietly put up 27.5 FPs in his last two games. The Nets are dead last in fantasy vs. PGs over the last two weeks, and with a 9.5-point spread, there’s a good chance he sees heavy second-half minutes.

Steven Adams, Thunder ($8,000) – Adams was beginning to get on a roll before an elbow injury sidelined him for two games last week. Prior to that, he’d averaged 20.5 FPs in his previous four games, and he’s a good bet to finish in that range tonight. OKC will need a big effort from all its big men when they take on Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets. The Rockets have also allowed the third-most points to opposing centers over the past two weeks. Come for the fantasy points, stay for the mustache.

Langston Galloway, Knicks ($7,800) – The same theory that applied to Jerian Grant is also applicable here, except it’ll cost ya an extra $1,800.
