NBA Value Bin: Holiday Party

There are some big stars questionable for tonight’s contests, with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant headlining the list. A number of game-time decisions are lurking, so make sure to be on the lookout for injury updates from guys like Isaiah Thomas, Hassan Whiteside, Chandler Parsons, Mike ConleyEvan Fournier and Derrick Favors. Players already ruled out on Wednesday are Elfrid Payton, Avery Bradley, LaMarcus Aldridge and Tony Parker.

Injuries aside, Wednesday’s slate gives us 11 games to work with, and what a fun night it’ll be. To win the top prizes, you’ll need to save some salary though, and you can do so by rostering some of the following players. The potential value that comes with their lower price tags will allow you to pay up for a chalk play like Russell Westbrook.

Here are the top value plays in NBA DFS for Wednesday, January 6th.

Jrue Holiday, Pelicans ($9,800)

Holiday no longer has a minutes restriction and he’s underpriced yet again for Wednesday’s matchup versus the Dallas Mavericks.

It’s unlikely we see Tyreke Evans (knee) play tonight, and Holiday would be the main beneficiary. Evans is technically out with tendinitis, but he admitted to feeling “sharp pains” in his surgically repaired knee. That is an ominous comment, and missing practice on Monday and Tuesday does not bode well for his availability either. Holiday blew up last game with Evans on the sidelines, notching 36.75 fantasy points in 30 minutes of play, and he should get plenty of burn against a Mavericks teams that is playing in the second game of a back-to-back, with last night’s contest going into double overtime.

Cody Zeller, Hornets ($9,500)

The youngest of the Brothers Zeller is anything but spectacular, but he’s been extremely consistent in recent games, averaging 26.3 fantasy points over his last seven contests. In that span he’s managed under 23.0 FPs just once and has surpassed 30.0 FPs twice, so it’s safe to say he’s a good bet to finish in that range.

Zeller’s opponent, the Phoenix Suns, are 29th versus opposing centers over the last two weeks, and the Hornets will need all hands on deck with Nicolas Batum (toe) questionable and Jeremy Lamb (wrist) out.

Patrick Patterson, Raptors ($7,400)

The Raptors signing of DeMarre Carroll has been a huge bust so far. Not only had the forward not produced on the court, but he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee today, which will sideline him for a while. Hopefully he can make a full recovery.

James Johnson was supposed to be the sneaky value play in Carroll’s absence Monday, but he threw up a dud. Rather, it was long forgotten Patrick Patterson who came to the Raptors’ aid, though they did lose the game. Patterson racked up 19.75 fantasy points on the strength of 15 points, three 3-pointers and a steal in 26 minutes of action. He also had 26.50 FPs on Friday, so it looks like the artist formerly known as Pat-Pat may be getting hot at the right time.

Patterson probably won’t see more than the 26 minutes he received on Monday, but if you combine opportunity with a good matchup (Brooklyn is 28th vs. PFs over last 2 weeks), he makes for a solid, cost-cutting addition to your DFS lineup.
