Week #14 Injury Report – The Tight Ends are Coming!!

It’s Week #14 on the NFL calendar and for yearly Fantasy owners and NFL players it’s a big week and the injury report proves it. Some players with significant tweaks or bruises and battered bodies are giving it a go and we are going to break it down this morning.

Rob Gronkowski, Patriots, $14,600 – The NFL is a better world when Gronk is in it and Saturday night it was announced that he was likely to give it a go and the Patriots (and DFS players) need it. Gronk is a pricey play, even hobbling on one knee, but his value can be seen around the DFS landscape more than in his own back yard. Danny Amendola – Patriots $10,200 – is also listed as questionable but expected to give it a go today) should get a few less targets, but more importantly he should draw less defensive attention as well. Scott Chandler ($7,400) – has been a target machine with Gronkowski out and while he won’t disappear from the offense, a battered Gronk will eat into his targets the most of any Patriot.

Tyler Eifert, Bengals, $10,600 – I thought Eifert would be out for a long time with a neck injury (they are calling it a stinger) but I am only playing a doctor on the internet so what do I know. The Bengals are fighting for a home field bye throughout the playoffs and todays head-to-head with the Steelers is a big one and I suspect that’s why he is making it back so soon. Eifert comes in at a reasonable price compared to Gronkowski and Olsen while leading the position in touchdowns. He has a great match up against a Steelers pass defense that allows just about everyone to throw on them and is ranked seventh worst to Fantasy tight ends at 12.97 points per game.

Gary Barnidge, Browns, $9,300 – He was listed as questionable on Friday, but reports had him expected to play on Saturday. Barnidge hasn’t been the touchdown machine recently that he was early in the year but his price reflects that and he has still been productive (18 receptions and 15 receiving yards in his last four games). He faces a Niners defense that has only allowed 8.77 points per game, tenth best in football. The Browns are bad across the board so Barnidge playing helps Barnidge and not much else.

Calvin Johnson, Lions, $14,000 – Listed as questionable with an ankle injury Johnson was limited in practice on Friday but reports out of the Lions building is that they were being cautious with him and that he is expected to play. There isn’t a lot to love in Detroit for DFS players so Johnson playing makes them relevant to some degree. His presence hasn’t helped their run game or Golden Tate ($8,800) and Eric Ebron ($6,000) can disappoint with or without Megatron in the lineup so his ability to get on the field doesn’t have much impact on the players around him.

Jarvis Landry, Dolphins, $12,000 – Landry has been dealing with a knee injury and was limited all week, but he got a full practice in and is listed as probable against a bad Giants pass defense. The Dolphins focus on the run against the Ravens in week #13 (Ryan Tannehill only passed 19 times) combined with Landry’s health would normally diminish DeVante Parker’s value ($7,800) but everyone has value when you face the Giants.

Brandin Cooks, Saints, $11,700 – There has been some disagreement about whether Cooks had a concussion or not (which is giving me a headache) but regardless of the facts, he is going to play against the Buccaneers who rank 12th worst in points allowed to Fantasy wide receivers. Cooks has three touchdowns in his last four games, but this one is on the road.

C.J. Anderson, Broncos, $8,400 – He is listed as questionable with an ankle injury and reports state he will dress against the Raiders but it doesn’t look like he will play much if at all. Ronnie Hillman ($9,200) has been announced as the starter and should get the bulk of the workload, but if you want to take a Hail Mary flyer, Juwan Thompson ($6,000) looks to be the number two this week.

Phillip Rivers, Chargers, $11,300 – Rivers is reported to be suffering from a severe case of the flu but “that won’t stop him form playing in this game” according to reports. As if a match up against the Chiefs at Arrowhead wasn’t bad enough, the Chargers season is over and it feels like Rivers could have a tough time getting through this game. The Chargers have been on a downward spiral for weeks and the possibility that Rivers won’t finish the game damages the value of Antonio Gates ($8,600) and kills the cheap wide receiver options they have.

Darelle Revis, Jets, $Free – Revis has missed two weeks with a concussion but is reported to be back and ready to play against the Titans after practicing in full late in the week. The Titans wide receiving core has been banged up and wasn’t the most talented group in the league to begin with, but Dorial Green-Beckham ($7,300) is coming off a five reception, 119 yard game with a touchdown. With Kendall Wright out and Revis in, there is a good chance the youngster will be visiting Revis Island.
