Yankees win 1st NY Subway Series of 2015

Sunday featured several great series across the MLB, including the classic Subway Series in New York.

The Yankees ended up winning the first round in the battle of New York this season after defeating the Mets 6-4.  The Twins defeated the Mariners 4-2 thanks to Joe Mauer’s two-run triple in the top of the 13th inning. The Rangers took the lead in the top of the 11th to defeat the Angels 5-4.  The Brewers defeated the Cardinals 6-3 behind the bat of Adam Lind who had a 2 run homer in the game. The Tigers defeated the Indians 8-6 behind solid offense from Miguel Cabrera. Miguel Montero and Addison Russell propelled the Cubs to a 5-2 victory over the Reds.  The Marlins beat the Nationals 6-2 for a sweep of the series.  The Phillies beat the Braves 5-4, with top performances by Ryan Howard, Ben Revere, and Freddy Galvis.

The Rays beat the Blue Jays 5-1, as Chris Archer threw 7 shutout innings, making it now 26 2/3 innings without an earned run allowed.  The Orioles had no issues against the Red Sox in their big 18-7 win, led by solid offense from Delmon Young (6RBIs) and 6 others with multiple runs. Hanley Ramirez had 2 home runs and Pablo Sandoval had a home run as well in the loss.  Avisail Garcia had his first career game-winning hit as he singled in the bottom of the 9th to give the White Sox a 3-2 walk off win over the Royals to finish the game that was suspended due to rain Friday night. In their second game of the day, the White Sox held off the Royals in a 5-3 win after a big 5 run 6th inning.

In a close game in Oakland, the Astros had a productive 9th inning, scoring 2 runs behind the bat of Evan Gattis who had 4 RBIs. Jake Marisnick also had a 2 run homer for Houston, leading to a 7-6 win over the Athletics. The Padres defeated the Dodgers 3-1 behind solid pitching from Brandon Morrow, who got his first win in over a year, and Alexi Amarista and Derek Norris who both had solo home runs. The Pirates shut the Diamondbacks out in a big 8-0 win behind solid pitching from Francisco Liriano and solid offense from the team with 14 hits, for their 5th straight win.
