White Sox Come up Big Over Tigers

The White Sox came up with the probably biggest win of yesterday’s batch of games, handing the Tigers their second loss of the year, 12-3. White Sox’ 1B Jose Abreu had a grand slam during the 4th inning, part of the eleven runs Chicago would score before the 5th inning.

Left fielder Melky Cabrera and designated hitter Adam LaRoche also played major roles in the Chicago win, combining with Abreu to post a total of three doubles, two home runs, 10 RBIs and six runs scored. Chicago improves to 4-6 with the win.

There were a handful of shutouts yesterday, including a 4-0 Astros win over the Angels, a 5-0 Oakland win over Kansas City, and a 9-0 whooping by the Yankees over the Rays.

Yankees left fielder Chris Young had a grand slam in the 7th, part of a huge seven-run inning for NY. The Yankees are now 2-0 in their series with the Rays.

The Phillies topped the Nationals 5-3, Toronto beat out ATL 6-5, and the Indians took down the Twins, 4-2. Both the Toronto/Atlanta series and the Cleveland/Minnesota series are now split, 1-1.

It was St. Louis over Cincinnati 5-2, the Cubs over the Padres 7-6, the Orioles over the Red Sox 4-1, and the Pirates over the Brewers, 6-2. Pirates pitcher Jeff Lock struck out 23 of the last 25 Milwaukee batters during the win.

The Mets continue their winning streak with a win over the Marlins, giving them three wins so far in the four game series and a total win streak of seven.

The Diamondbacks drop their first game to the Giants of the two teams’ four-game series, 4-1. Arizona leads the series, 2-1.

Finally, we saw the Dodgers pick up their eighth win of the season with a 6-3 win over the Rockies and the Mariners take care of the Rangers, 3-1. The Dodgers have now won six straight, while the Mariners’ win over Colorado comes as their first since April 12.
