NHL Trade Deadline Fast Approaching

Hockey-generic-1-8-15The NHL trade deadline is less than a week away.  When the clock strikes 3pm Eastern Monday March 2 the trading period ends and teams begin the 40 day sprint to finish. It has been pretty quiet on the trade-front so far due to the relatively high prices; but I would expect it to begin to get a little closer to the weekend.  There are already rumors that Boston among others is looking to make a move to get a stronger hold on a playoff spot.  Currently they sit in 8th place in the Eastern Conference, but Philadelphia and Florida are nipping at their heels.

Yesterday the Minnesota Wild dealt LW Sean Bergenheim to the Florida Panthers for a 3rd round pick in the 2016 draft.  Montreal sent RW Devante Smith-Pelly to Anaheim for (LW) Jiri Sekac.  It’s nice to see a hockey trade (vs. the stretch-pass / rental we typically see this time of year); but this is likely just the beginning as Anaheim likely will be looking to add to the blue line.  Stay tuned, things are sure to heat up.
